This term I have learned what topology is. all you have to do is create a network with arcs and nods. Say we are making a network to illustrate the towns and all the roads connecting the group’s of towns together and the arcs are the roads and showing the acces points to the towns. The nods are the actual town.

I have also learned how to find the perimeter of circles u just find the radius times it by pie then times it by the radius again so pi radius squared.

I have learned how to show not tell in english

This week I have learned how to enlarge/shrink a shape by the scale factor giving. Say a shape was four by four and u have to shrink it by 1/2 u would just divide 16 by two equals eight then half it again for the other side which equals four  so now it would be two by two. I also learned how to enlarge shapes by the scale factor again say if the shape was four by four and the scale factor was two you would time two twice for both of the sides so 16 times two equals 32 times two equals 64 so now it is eight by eight  squares.

I still need to achieve my goal from pretty much the start of the year and that would be improving my punctuation and handing in work to the best of my ability. I will do this by trying to start on book review’s and other pieces of writing before the last night until I have to hand it in so I can properly edit it.

Thanks to Judith Collins, The Correction Minister, smoking is going to be banned in New Zealand from July 2011 onwards. This move she said will ‘make prisons safer and healthier for staff and prisoners’.  In New Zealand 2/3 of prisoners smoke so this will have a big effect on the way prisoners live. There also are a lot of people that are thinking that prisoners get it way to easy.

There are heaps of reasons for and against but I’m going to show you 3 for and 3 against. Firstly there shouldn’t be luxury options for prisoners, and as many people know smoking makes you feel relaxed. Feeling relaxed shouldn’t be an option because they did something wrong and they need to feel bad for what they have done so they don’t do it again. However there is also an upside as people who don’t smoke and go to prison, they will have to breathe in all the second hand smoke. The people that take prison as their home won’t want to go back there.

Now for another reason if smoking is banned in prison it might keep people from doing crimes as they can’t smoke in prisons so they will have give up smoking smoke while there in prison; but there will also be a bad side to this because smoking will most likely become a black-market item and therefore the prisoners will become more restless and attack guards with smoke on them.

Finally having smoking banned in prison will make it a healthier place for everyone. They can breath fresh air instead of air filled with smoke, this is also polluting the air therefore making our whole country a cleaner and greener place, for everyone to live. But of course there is a bad side the prisoners will crave a smoke way to much and it might cause them to go over the edge and cause more hostile situations in prisons therefore making the government pay more for having more guards to secure the prisons.

In conclusion to this you probably guessed by now that I’m going for this argument as making New Zealand more beautiful and more cleaner is a way better option then keeping it the way it is. Also were letting prisoners feel relaxed and carefree for what they have done. They need to feel the guilt if they killed someone or did a crime.

I have put this piece of writing on my blog to say that I have learned how to do a discussion argument (a 2 sided argument) Using quotes and current knowledge from newspaper articles.

 Maths: This week I learned how to find out how big the external angle all you have to do is plus the two opposite internal angles together.

English: I learned how to show someone not tell them about different things like if I was trying to say the man was chubby I would say the man is quite podgy with big round face and Waddell’s like penguin.

My goals for next week are:
Next week I want to work hard to improve my punctuation skills and hopefully by the end of the year I will be able to punctuate really well and leave a couple of mistakes. I will achieve this by focusing in class and not day dreaming.

I have learned how to find the area of a triangle that dosent show you the height but still has all 3 measurement. So if the line’s aren’t straight u would find the perimeter then use this eqution halfp(halfp-a)(halfp-b)(halfp-c) then find the square root of that answer and that is the area of the triangle it called herons formula.

This week in English I learned how to tell if a sentence is compound, complex and simple. If it is a compound it has 2 independent sentencesand If it has the fan boys in.  For complex sentences it has 1 independent sentences and 1 or more dependent ones. Finally simple is a sentence with just one independent sentence.

My goals for next week are:

I want to start using punctuation correctly.  I will achieve this by focusing and proof reading my work more then once.

In this maths work I learned how to do compound interest using formulas on Microsoft  Office Excel

This week I have learned in math’s how to multiply and divide fraction. To multiply, say if the question was 2/3 times 3/4 would be two times three equals six and three times four equals 12 so the answer would be 6/12, which is simplified to 1/2. Now for division say the question would be 4/5 divided by 8/3, I would multiply by the reciprocal of the divisor. Which means in this case 8/3 would turn into 3/8, so then four times three equals 12, and five times eight equals 40, so the answer is 12/40.

My goals for next week is to become more on task and finish my work before the last-minute. I will achieve this by focusing on the time I have to finish things.
